We went on a field trip with Scott AFB's home school group to Daniel Boone's home in Missouri. The kids got to spend some time in a one room schoolhouse, make a candle by dipping it in hot wax, then in cold water, and they also saw some of the rooms in Daniel Boone's house. During the tour of the home Jacob noticed that Daniel Boone's bed had ropes holding the mattress up and asked the tour guide about it. She told us that that was what they used for their bed frames and the ropes come from the saying "Sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite." Since ropes stretch they had to tighten them every night before they went to bed, and "don't let the bed bugs bite" comes from using leaves and hay to stuff their mattresses which meant there were probably going to be a few bugs in them.
