Day 5 - Lake Placid, NY to Montpelier, VT to Meredith, NH

On our way to Montpelier we took one of Vermont's scenic byways which was gorgeous. It took us through the farmlands. Everything was perfect along the drive. There wasn't one lawn that needed to be mowed or one house that needed to be painted. We also passed a very old tractor on the highway which gave the feeling of stepping back in time.

This is a statue of Ethan Allan who was the founder of Vermont and is best know for the capture of Fort Ticonderoga at the outbreak of the Revolutionary War and his leadership of the Green Mountain Boys.

The statue of Abraham Lincoln was the first thing we saw as we entered the State House.

This is a picture of the Senate, which is still in its original state when the state house was finished in the 1800's. The picture on the wall is of George Washington.

We didn't take a scenic byway for the rest of our drive through Vermont and it was definitely a different experience. Next time we will stay on the byway.

The kids were ready to have some fun when we got to Meredith, NH, so we walked down to the lake and let them play!

Our dinner in Meredith was so refreshingly different. The outside restaurant was built on sand and we had a great view of the lake.

Painting Birdhouses

The kids amazed me with this project. I took them to Michael's to pick out their birdhouse. Then, when we got home they pick out the paint they wanted to use from my collection of acrylic paints. I didn't give them any advice on what colors to choose and they didn't ask for it. They also decided where they wanted each color to go. I painted the edges where different colors bordered, gave them some instruction on how to use and hold the brush and they did the rest. They had so much patience with this project and really tried hard to do a good job. Their efforts showed because they look great!
